The work

Psychodynamic therapy, with room for dreams and creativity.

Psychodynamic therapy is based on the principle that we are shaped by our early life history, and that these patterns can be changed. Many of them operate quietly, out of view. Therapy is a place to be curious about them.

Often the strategies that kept us safe as a child outlive their usefulness and become barriers to how we want to be in the world. The therapeutic relationship is how that history, and those ways of being with other people, can be understood and changed.

I am psychodynamically trained and also draw on Jungian ideas, including dreams and archetypes. Being curious about dreams and creative life can bring into awareness what has been neglected, hidden or disallowed. The work can be serious, and it can also be playful.

Sessions are in Hastings and online, usually once a week, for as long as the work needs or for a fixed period when that is the right frame. A first meeting carries no obligation to continue.

Where the work often leads

Life transitions

Bereavement, separation and divorce, redundancy and a change of work. These passages often reopen older questions beyond the event in front of you.

New ways of being

Questions of identity, meaning and what has been set aside. Rediscovering aspects of who you are, beyond what you were allowed or expected to be.

Letting Go

Releasing what no longer serves us, detaching from painful situations and discovering who we really are.
